Above and beyond clinical excellence

Combined Autism and ADHD assessments for children and adults

in Wimbledon, Epsom, Crouch End, and online

The intersection between detailed pattern analysis (Autism) and endless curiosity (ADHD)

Leads to both the brilliance and frustration found in AuDHD

What’s Different about AuDHD?

The intersection between both Autism and ADHD creates some unique nuances that can be quite different to what an individual experiences when they only have Autism or ADHD alone.

AuDHD is more than the sum of its parts, and understanding that difference is key in understanding yourself.

AuDHD is like a tug-of-war. Autistic traits pull an individual toward the Autistic side of things, whilst ADHD is an opposing force pulling in the opposite direction. The result is that individuals with AuDHD are more likely to go undiagnosed, and they can look like a walking contradiction. It just means that sometimes the Autistic side of the brain is louder, and other times, the ADHD side of the brain is louder. These brains can be remarkably detailed and creative.

We have described some of the core differences of AuDHD below.

Routine

A strong need for routine and rules (Autism) but struggles to stick to it because of impulsivity (ADHD).

Creativity

Highly detail oriented and analytical (Autism) but also very creative (ADHD). This leads to both creative excellence but also a feeling of being stuck when not enough detail is available.

RElationships

AuDHD individuals appear to be much more socially competent than Autistic individuals, and generally have a deeper desire for social connection, but struggle to know how to create and maintain it.

Communication

Struggles with reading social cues (Autism) but tends to talk excessively and has a strong urge to interrupt others (ADHD).

INterests

Deep interests in specific topics (Autism) but also gets bored easily and loses interest (ADHD).

Focus

Ability to focus very deeply on topics of interest (Autism) but will rapidly shift or won’t be able to sustain attention if interest is lost (ADHD).

HOW DOES IT WORK?

01

Contact us to book a discovery call. This is a free 20 minute Zoom chat with Dianne Everitt, in order to make sure that an Autism assessment is right for you. If you have been referred by another practitioner, you can skip this step.

02

If you proceed with the full assessment, we raise a deposit of £500 and send you questionnaires to be completed. You will complete most of them, and we will ask a parent or a close friend/partner/relative to complete one form.

03

For children under 12, we start with a parent appointment of around 2-3 hours, and then add a child appointment for around an hour, and another in-person appointment to complete an ADOS-2. We may add a school observation where needed.

04

Our team meets and collates all of the information we have gathered to make an evidence-based diagnostic conclusion and write a detailed report. This normally takes around 4 weeks.

05

Once the report is complete, the lead practitioner on the case will book a feedback session with you, where we will go through the outcome of the assessment, and talk through specific recommendations.

What will it cost?

Our assessments include a set number of interviews. If additional information is needed to make a diagnosis, or an additional interview is requested (for example, a second parent interview for young adults), this is charged at an additional £140 per hour.

What does a good quality assessment for Autism and adhd Entail?

A Gold-Standard Assessment for Autism will integrate the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR) with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines used by the NHS to ensure every assessment is clinically rigorous. This process ensures your diagnosis is accurate, robust, and meets the highest medical standards recognised by healthcare professionals.

We have highlighted some of the ways we aspire to excellence.

Considers the unique makeup of each individual

Takes time to understand your lived experience

Uses evidence based, validated tools (ADOS, ADI-R, DIVA-5, ACIA)

Provides clear recommendations for how to move forward

Looks beyond symptoms and Unpicks masking

Goes above and beyond

We are proud to say

we follow nice guidelines

In all of our Autism assessments in Wimbledon, Epsom and North London, we follow the guidelines set out by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Our Gold-Standard assessments are rigorous, regulated, ethical, and widely accepted by the NHS and across the UK.

We also support individuals seeking Autism assessments from nearby areas including Kingston-upon-Thames, Morden, Mitcham, Roehampton, Putney, Sutton, Esher, Chessington, Banstead, and Leatherhead.

Additional INformation

01

For children under 16, we need consent from both parents to proceed. We would ideally like both parents to attend the appointment, but if this is not ideal, we can proceed with one parent.

02

If only one parent attends the assessment, and the other parent requests an additional appointment, this is charged at an additional £140 per hour.

03

For children over the age of 12, we generally have the first appointment with both parent/s and the young person together. This is decided on a case by case basis.

04

For older adolescents and adults, we would have a 3-4 hour appointment with the person being assessed, and then another shorter appointment to identify Autistic traits specifically.

05

If you are unsure which assessment is needed, you can book a discovery call with Dianne Everitt, and we will we help you identify the best pathway forward.

06

For under 18s, there will always be two practitioners. One will be a Psychologist, and your child will be seen by a speech and language therapist for an ADOS.

07

An ADOS for under 18s must usually be done in person. On occasion, we will offer this online, if needed. All other appointments can be online or in person.

08

If you are not diagnosed with Autism or ADHD, we will give you a comprehensive explanation of how your symptoms can be understood.

09

If the school does not provide sufficient information to make a diagnostic conclusion, we will add on a school observation at an additional £140.

After a Diagnosis

Once a diagnosis of Autism has been made, you may require therapeutic support.

Our team of psychologists in Wimbledon, Epsom, Crouch End and online across the UK, work closely with AuDHD and may be able to offer therapy after the assessment, depending on availability.

If a diagnosis is not made, we will go through the overall picture of your mental health with you, and explain why the diagnostic criteria were not met.

Unmasking for the high achiever

And how AuDHD can look different in girls and women

AuDHD in girls, women, and high achievers, often looks like a picture that can be misleading. These individuals can appear to be socially motivated and skilled. They’re often described as sociable and outgoing, and seek out friendships. Not quite what we expect if we’re talking about Autism. It takes some fine tuned detective work to see exactly how “social communication differences” show up. We often see much more subtle difference. They will seek out social connection, but they might dominate interactions, struggle when things aren’t on their terms, or have frequent fallouts with friends. This requires some fine-tuned detective work to uncover.

Our assessments in Wimbledon, Epsom and Crouch End are well versed in uncovering these mechanisms in AuDHD.
