AUTISM ASSESSMENTS CHessington

Specialist Autism assessments in Chessington

for children, adolescents, and adults. Evidence-based, NICE-compliant, and trusted by families across the area.

Autism presents differently in every person. A child who struggles socially but excels academically, an adult who has spent years developing strategies to mask their difficulties, a teenager whose anxiety and sensory sensitivities have never been fully explained. Whatever the picture, a high-quality autism assessment provides the clarity needed to understand it properly and access the right support.

Why Families & Adults chOOSE Sage PSychology

Our clinicians bring specialist expertise in autism across all ages, using structured, evidence-based methods to reach conclusions that are both accurate and meaningful. We look at the whole person, taking care to understand individual history and context rather than working from a narrow diagnostic lens.

What a High-Quality Autism Assessment Should Include

With more private autism assessment providers available than ever, it is worth understanding what separates a thorough, reliable assessment from a superficial one.

  • Specialist clinical expertise

Autism presents differently across ages, genders, and backgrounds. The clinicians involved should have specific training and experience in ASC assessment, not just general mental health practice.

  • More than questionnaires

A robust assessment draws on structured observational tools, direct clinical interaction, and information from people who know the individual well, such as parents, carers, or teachers where relevant.

  • Multi-practitioner review

Conclusions should not rest on a single clinician's judgement. A multi-practitioner review process, where findings are independently considered before any diagnosis is confirmed, is a key marker of clinical quality.

  • Screening for co-occurring conditions

Anxiety, ADHD, and emotional regulation difficulties frequently present alongside autism. An assessment that does not screen for these risks producing an incomplete picture.

  • Thorough developmental history

Understanding early communication, social development, and behavioural patterns is central to accurate diagnosis. This part of the process should never be rushed.

  • Medical & family health background

Taking health history into account and referring to a GP where clinically appropriate.

  • Differential diagnoses consideration

Good clinical practice means weighing up alternative explanations, not simply confirming what has already been assumed.

  • Strengths-based reporting

A useful diagnostic report goes beyond listing difficulties. It should identify strengths alongside challenges and provide practical, tailored recommendations.

  • Dedicated feedback session

A proper session to discuss findings, answer questions, and plan next steps should be a standard part of the process.

We are proud to say

We meet all of these standards

If you are unsure,

You can book a pre-screening appointment

We offer a one-hour pre-assessment consultation to explore your overall mental health and determine whether a full autism assessment is appropriate for you. If we feel an autism assessment is not the most suitable next step, we will recommend an alternative—such as a different type of assessment or a tailored therapy approach.
